J2A Agape Meal Schedule Correction PDF Print E-mail

There was an error in the monthly NET for March, 2010.  The Agape supper is on the 14th and not the 21st.  Below is a corrected version of the article:

Our sixth All-J2A-Program will be Sunday Evening, March 14th from 5:00 to 8:00.  We will travel back in time to worship as our  Christian ancestors did in the fourth century ce, after which we will have an Agape meal.  Agape is a Greek word meaning “love.”  Greek was a common language spoken by people from many different countries and cultures in the ancient world.  An important part of the worship and meal were the food offerings brought by members of the congregation.  Please contact Kim Franks ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Journey to Adulthood Pilgrimage PDF Print E-mail

From God, Through Me, to Us is the theme of St. Andrew’s first Journey to Adulthood Pilgrimage.  The J2A program encourages teens to go on a pilgrimage at the end of their tenth grade year.  Pilgrimage is neither a vacation, nor a sightseeing tour, nor a mission trip.   Pilgrimage is all of that and more – it is a time set aside to journey in the footsteps of faithful Christians who have gone before. By mindfully walking in their footsteps, teenagers are put in touch with our tradition, our roots, our God.  This coming Summer teens will journey to Richmond to explore the African American experience along the Richmond Slave Trail, focusing on the spirituality that gave people hope and a will to persevere through hardship and enslavement.  Stay Tuned for more information, or contact the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Worship and Christian Formation for Children at St. Andrew's PDF Print E-mail

The spiritual growth and development of our children is a major focus here at St. Andrew's. We offer several programs to help children become aware of the mystery of God’s presence through sacred stories and liturgical action.

  • For our youngest parishioners, Nursery (ages newborn to two years old) and Toddler (ages 2 to 3 ½ years) rooms are available during the 10:00 a.m. service and the education hour following the 10:00 service. Children in both rooms are cared for by a paid staff person with the assistance of a rotating roster of parent volunteers.

  • Children’s Chapel meets weekly during the 10:00 a.m. service for children ages 3 ½ years through the 1st grade. Through singing, storytelling, and prayer, young children are introduced to worship in the Episcopal Church. Children’s Chapel runs approximately for the first 20 minutes of Sunday Learning Center.

  • Learning Center is our very special educational program for children ages 3 ½ years through 1st grade. Combined with Children’s Chapel, the Learning Center meets from 10:00 a.m. through 12:15 p.m. so that parents can attend the 10:00 a.m. worship and the 11:30 a.m. Adult Forum. Children are grouped by age and grade with appropriate peers and use the “Hands On Bible” curriculum which actively engages children's imaginations while they learn about God.

  • Sunday School for 2nd grade through Senior High meets immediately following the 10:00 a.m. worship service until 12:15 p.m.

  • The elementary grades utilize the “Mustard Seed” curriculum which is biblically based and age appropriate to nurture students’ growing awareness of God.

  • Jr. and Sr. High students use the “Core Belief Bible Study” series. Core is a biblically based study series committed to Biblical depth, relevance to current events, variety and active/interactive learning.

We offer two registration methods for our child/youth education programs. The first method is the "Hard Copy Registration" - a pdf file that you can print out, complete, and either bring to the Education offices or mail to the church office at 6509 Sydenstricker Road, Burke, VA 22015. The second method is to pick up a registration form in the education wing or the church office and fill it out at church. For more information, please stop by the superintendent's office in the Education wing of the church.

We thank all our wonderful Sunday School teachers who are volunteering to teach Sunday School in 2009/2010.  In case you do not have a Teacher's Manual yet, you can download the manual here.

Adult Christian Formation at St. Andrew's PDF Print E-mail

Christian Formation – it’s not just for young people!  Did you know that St. Andrew's makes your spiritual formation as an adult a priority?  Sunday mornings, join us at 11:30 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room for our weekly Adult Forum.

Other Adult Formation offerings include the Wednesday Evening Adult Bible Study Group, which meets on Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the church library; the Wednesday Morning Bible Study class, which meets from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Conference Room. We also offer a Bible Study on Sunday mornings during the Formation hours. This group uses a lectionary-based study that takes a deeper look at the Scriptures read in the worship each Sunday.

Seasonal Adult Formation events, such as the "Women's Retreat" are also offered periodically.  Please consider deepening your friendship with God by joining one of these outstanding classes.
