Northern Virginia Habitat for Humanity

St. Andrews has a long and active relationship with the Northern Virginia affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Founded in 1990, they are headquartered in Arlington, VA. We build homes in Arlington and Fairfax Counties as well as the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax. We have co-sponsored homes in Alexandria and Fairfax.

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia is actively looking for new land in Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria.  To make a contribution to the land development fund or a general Habitat donation please visit their web page.  Get more information at these sites: Local Affiliate - Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia and Habitat for Humanity International Organization

Our current volunteer opportunities are with Restore.  The ReStore  donations of new and gently used building materials, appliances, and other home improvement items and resell them at 50-90% below retail, with the proceeds going to build Habitat homes.  They need volunteers to staff the ReStore Monday-Friday, 10-4, picking up and receiving donations, assisting customers, stocking shelves, and running the cash register. They need volunteers weekday afternoons to provide admin support, following up on calls from donors and arranging pickups.  If you are able and willing to help in any of these ways, please contact Steve Greene at (703) 521-9890 ext. 101.  Please visit http://www.restorenova.org/ for all the exciting details.

Habitat for Humanity upcoming building project! Westbrook Forest - work has finally started on the three-story, twelve unit condominium located near the Stevenson St. townhouses.  The slab should be in by early next week followed by shell framing by a subcontractor.  The schedule for volunteer work is not set but probably won't start until after the first of the year.  Prior to that, we plan on several Sandlot Gang workdays to mark interior wall locations on the sub floors and to layout the plates.  We also will need to get both trailers straightened up.

Habitat for Humanity on the Gulf Coast!  The HFH of Northern Virginia continues to send volunteers to the Gulf Coast for recovery assistance.  The next trip is scheduled for Sept. 14 - Oct. 7.  In addition, a group of 10 AmeriCorps volunteers has been assigned to Biloxi and will devote their full year of service to assisting our mission.  They will be joined by 18 other volunteers every week.  Accommodations remain at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, and meals are still being provided by Bethel Lutheran Church and the Salvation Army.  If you are a professional or just plain handy and would like to volunteer, please contact Jennifer Guerra at 703-521-9890, ext. 105, or via email at jguerra@hfhnv.org.
