Lay members of the parish play an important role in our worship at St. Andrew’s. Please contact a member of the clergy if you want more information about serving in our liturgical ministries.

Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is a special ministry to St. Andrew’s Church. Throughout the church year, the altar guild is responsible for the care and preparation of the altars, linens, brass, silver, and candles. Each Saturday, a team of men and women meet in the sacristy where the candles are filled with oil, the wafers are counted for each service, the wine is measured, and the lessons are set in the Bible. A separate group of Guild members are linen washers and ironers. The altar is prepared with the proper liturgical color veil and burse for that day. The Altar Guild also sets up the chapel for the Wednesday morning service. There are also special tasks associated with feast days, baptisms, weddings, funerals, and memorial services. New people are always welcome to serve in the Guild. Point of contact: Marlene Taggart. |

Flower Guild
Many find a connection with God in the beauty of nature. The altar flowers bring to our worship space a touch of nature that reminds us of parts of creation. The Flower Guild members offer their gift of creativity by arranging flowers to bring natural beauty to our worship space. Every Saturday morning one of the Flower Guild members picks the flowers, trims flowers and shrubs from a yard or from nature, and arranges them for the altar. At Christmas and Easter they gather as a group to plan and decorate for these special occasions. They also meet to do artificial arrangements that are sold at the Christmas Bazaar. Periodically, members meet to create arrangements together to develop new skills and ideas. The funding for altar flowers only comes from donations by members of the congregation. Prayer Guild
The St. Andrew’s Prayer Guild prays on a regular basis for the parish, its members and ministries, and for the needs of the church, the community, the nation, and the world. Each member has a prayer list with the names of about thirty St. Andrew’s households, and each member also pays close attention to the names on the parish prayer list. This group meets periodically to update prayer lists and to discuss approaches to prayer. Members communicate with each other regularly via e-mail. The Prayer Guild also responds to requests for prayers for individual needs and concerns. Prayer request cards may be placed in the offering basin or given to the Church Office. Prayer requests may also be submitted

Ushers
The Ushers are an important part of parish life at St. Andrew's. Ushers assist at the 8:00am and 10:00am Sunday services as well as other special services. Usher responsibilities include welcoming and helping to seat the congregation, distributing the Service Bulletin, Sunday Net, inserts and special announcements, collecting the offering, and assisting in managing the altar rail for Holy Eucharist. Ushers also provide assistance to members of the congregation should the need arise. They also monitor the safety and security of the church during the service. Ushers are usually scheduled once every six weeks in a changing rotation. Anyone with a desire to participate as an Usher should contact the church office. Point of contact: Paul Foley. |
