What will ministry at St Andrew's look like in the future?

Renovation Plans

      Update June, 2008:

Sometime in June or early July, renovation construction should begin in the Nave and Chapel. When that starts, we will begin to hold all of our worship services in the Parish Hall and those areas being renovated will be closed. Construction is expected to last several months into the fall. The Parish Hall is coded for 250 people. Every attempt will be made for the service to run as it is done currently in the Nave. There will be some changes such as standing instead of keeling and piano music instead of organ. There will be a separate section for the choir. (However, the choir dos not usually sing in the summer.) At this time there will be three services: 6 p.m. Saturdays, and 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sundays. Kids Liturgy will be held in the Multipurpose Room during the 10 a.m. service. Since the Parish Hall will be used for worship, the coffee hour will take place after the services in the Multipurpose Room.

Update March 10, 2008:

  1. Nave/Chapel/Narthex renovation planning nearing completion and final subcontractor bids in process

  2. Estimated construction start end of May-early June with expected completion early November

  3. Estimated timeframe for organ renovation completion near end of calendar 2008

Update from the Renovation Committee
January 16, 2008:

  1. We reviewed the latest cost estimate that reduced the estimated cost for the renovation from $1.473 million to $1.111 million. Primary reasons for this reduction:

  • Removal of a new HVAC unit (which had not been part of the initial renovation plans )

  • Removal of the skylights in the nave.

We expect to further reduce costs with the redesign of the reredos and elimination of a new baptistry but we do not have sufficient information to estimate the costs.

  1. The committee approved the pendant lighting fixture recommended by the architect. Twenty eight of these pendant lights will replace the current lighting in the nave.

  1. The architect presented a revised schedule that reflects delays related to our efforts at cost reduction. Renovation of the nave is now expected to start at the beginning of June. Although this is a slip of about two months from our initial expected start, the reduction in work resulting from our changes will cause the end of the renovation to slip by only a couple of weeks -- to the end of November. This end date still works well with the organ installation schedule.

  1. The committee selected a new design for the sanctuary that retains the current large wooden cross, retains the current reredos but modifies it for clergy/crucifer seating and changes the front surface, and removes the current rector's prayer desk to create a space for permanent placement of the current baptismal font. (see pdf files). The planned changes respond to all the liturgical needs of the clergy while retain elements (the cross and the current baptismal font) that the congregation has expressed a strong attachment to.

  2. The architect has been asked to finalize drawings and specifications so that the general contractor can go out for bids from subcontractors.
