Along with his choral conducting and organ duties, he has composed a number of works both for the choirs he has directed and for the congregations he has served; the St. Andrew's Adult Choir has sung his Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in B minor and the congregation has learned portions of his Rite II setting for use in the Sunday morning liturgy. To ensure that he keeps a singer's perspective, he has continued to sing. From 1991 through 1995 he was a member of the Choir of Men and Boys at Washington National Cathedral; he can be heard as a soloist in the Franz Biebl Ave Maria on their Christmas CD. In 1996 he was accepted as a member of the Washington Bach Consort, and was fortunate to be able to participate in their tour of Germany in 2000, the 250th anniversary of Bach's death, including singing in the Thomaskirche where Bach served from 1723 until his death in 1750. In 2002, he recorded solos in Auf dem Gebirge and Ist nicht Ephraim mein teurer Sohn? by Heinrich Schütz with the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble, members of the Orchestra of the 17th Century and Carmina. After graduation from West Springfield High School, Jay attended the College of William and Mary in Virginia for both undergraduate and law school.
