Formation

A large portion of our parish is comprised of people under the age of eighteen. Education about the life of faith (or formation) is a responsibility we take to be central in the life with God. We want to enable our children and our youth to grow up with an understanding of scripture, and a keen sense of wonder and God’s overarching love for them.

Infants, toddlers, preschoolers, children in the primary grades, pre-teens and teenagers play an important role in the life and energy of our parish.

We offer several programs to help children become aware of the mystery of God’s presence:

  • The Learning Center, Godly Play, and Sunday School all focus parishioners from preschool to high school.
  • The Journey to Adulthood (J2A) program is aimed at helping pre-teens and teens move in faith from childhood to adult participation in the full life of the church and the understanding of what it means to be people of faith.

St. Andrew’s also operates a preschool in the educational wing of our church. From September through May, Monday to Friday, the corridors of St. Andrew’s are filled with the sounds of young children learning from an outstanding staff of teachers in a play-based environment. St. Andrew’s Episcopal Preschool is open to both parishioners and non-parishioners. Call the school office at (703) 455-8458 for more information or to speak with Tami Phillips, Preschool Director.
