May 6, 2020
Following the Discernment Team’s May 1st recommendation of the Reverend Will Packard to be our Priest-in-Charge, the Vestry affirmed the team’s recommendation and voted unanimously to call him to be our Priest-in-Charge.


April 24, 2020
The Discernment Team completed second-round interviews April 20–22 and began the process of selecting a Priest-in-Charge finalist.


March 30, 2020
The Discernment Team began acting on the following guidance from the Diocese: “We believe it is possible to do the faithful work of calling the right clergyperson to your parish without physically meeting the candidate or visiting the candidate’s parish for regular Sunday worship.”


March 16-19, 2020
The Discernment Team conducted first-round video interviews with Priest-in-Charge candidates and identified finalists for the next round of interviews.


February 27, 2020
The Discernment Team began evaluating applicant materials following the February 27 deadline for candidates to apply for our Priest-in-Charge position.


January 30, 2020
The St. Andrew’s Priest-in-Charge position was made live on the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia website, and our Community Ministry Portfolio was posted in the Office for Transition Ministry database for interested candidates.


January 12, 2020
Sunday School Lesson presented for older children and Youth.


January 9, 2020
The Discernment Team met to discuss finalization of the Community Ministry Portfolio and its submission to the diocese for posting. The Team began preparations for the next phase of the search process.


December 26, 2019
Community Ministry Portfolio draft presented to the Vestry for review and approval.


December 20, 2019
The Discernment Team made the Parish Survey Results and Listening Session Summary available to the congregation.


December 9, 2019
The Discernment Team began finalizing its draft of the Community Ministry Portfolio.


December 2, 2019
The Discernment Team presented to the Vestry summaries of information gathered through the survey and listening sessions.


November 20, 2019
The Discernment Team met and discussed completion of the Community Ministry Profile, the listening sessions, church staff interviews, and an upcoming Sunday School lesson for older children and youth.


November 11 & 12, 2019
The Discernment Team conducted interviews with church staff.


November 9, 2019
Six parishioners attended the final listening session on November 9th before the 5:00 p.m. service. Approximately 120 parishioners attended the five listening sessions.


November 6, 2019
The Discernment Team met to analyze survey results, plan for the final listening session on November 9th, and began compiling information for the community ministry portfolio.


November 3, 2019
Twenty-four parishioners participated in a 45-minute discernment listening session after the 10:00 a.m. service. The online and print parish survey ended with 129 respondents.


October 26, 2019
Thirty-five parishioners participated in a 45-minute discernment listening session at the Shrine Mont retreat.


October 20, 2019
Forty-two parishioners participated in two 45-minute discernment listening sessions held after the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services.


October 18, 2019
The Discernment Team distributed the online Parish Survey and made copies available in the church office. The survey closes on Thursday, October 31st.


October 15, 2019
The Discernment team met to plan for the listening sessions.


October 2, 2019
The Discernment team met to finalize the parish survey for presentation to the Vestry and transition website updates.


September 27–29, 2019
The Team finalized the following listening session dates and publicized them during three weekend services.

  • Sunday, October 20th @ 9:00 & 11:15 a.m. — Multipurpose Room
  • Saturday, October 26th @ 1:15 p.m. — Shrine Mont (St. Andrew’s Cottage)
  • Sunday, November 3rd @ 11:15 am — Multipurpose Room
  • Saturday, November 9th @ 4:00 p.m. — Multipurpose Room

September 19, 2019
Discernment Team met to discuss some brief updates from Sarah Brockenbrough, followed by a discussion regarding the Parish Survey and the conduct of upcoming listening sessions. The website team requested team members to submit their photos and short bios for inclusion on the website. The team then discussed the formulation of a project plan to track current and future action items.


September 5, 2019
The Discernment Team met to discuss updates from Sarah Brockenbrough regarding communications with the parish and the formulation of the parish survey. This was followed with updates on the progress of the various teams within the Discernment Team: St. Andrew’s Website, Parish Communication, and Survey Creation. The meeting culminated with a discussion of future action items and schedule for upcoming meetings.


August 13, 2019
The Discernment Team held a kick-off meeting. The team met with Sarah Brockenbrough, Transitional Minister, Diocese of Virginia, who detailed the Discernment Process, the parish survey, the parish profile, and sharing and listening to the parishioners.


August 4, 2019
The Discernment Team was commissioned at the 10:00 a.m. service.


July 26, 2019
The Vestry sent an email [link] to the congregation introducing Discernment Team.
